Beefs Outlook Boosts Profit Promise for Michigan Farmers

Michigan farmers may profit from beef calves as prices drop to manageable levels. Talks at Michigan State College by the American Shorthorn Breeders' Association highlighted costs of 550 in the west versus 35 to raise calves locally. Feeding tests show barley and corn perform similarly with silage and alfalfa hay, linseed meal speeding gains and boosting returns. Hog feeding shows alfalfa pasture lowers costs, and winter housing may be unnecessary. Cattle Feeders' Association officers were elected: Otto Wagner president and others listed.
