Michigan State College Sees Rise in Power Tools for Farming
Agricultural engineers at Michigan State College report that power tools including two row cultivators and the rotary hoe are suited for cultivating large acreages quickly. The two row cultivator handles 15 to 20 acres daily while the rotary hoe reaches 30 to 40 acres with a tractor. Early weed germination is essential for rotary hoe effectiveness. Demonstrations with two row cultivators on Monroe county farms used tractors at 1.5 to 5 mph. Further demonstrations will occur across Michigan counties this summer.
