Canada’s RD X Explosive Aided Allied War Effort
In 1941 a Canadian four engine bomber carried a twenty pound payload of RD X the world’s most powerful military explosive to Britain. Dr J H Ross and Dr H Sutherland led development of the process used to manufacture RD X and samples were sent to London for comparison with British methods. The mission highlighted international cooperation and Canada’s pivotal role in producing the new explosive for Allied use.
