Farm Produce Buying Power Shows Decline
Prof J F Cox head of Michigan Agricultural College warns that the exchange value of farm crops for manufactured goods has fallen since the war. Wheat at 3 dollars a bushel buys fewer necessities, while farm prices risen 50 to 100 percent fail to match dollar devaluation. The labor shortage and farm vacancies threaten cultivation. Cox urges manufacturers to aid farm labor and for better farming as a business. The Michigan Farm Bureau is a key force in stabilizing farming and reducing middlemen, urging broad sympathy for the new movement.
