Graduates Hear Commencement Sermon On Life Duty

Rev Wittbracht delivered the baccalaureate address at St Pauls church for the graduating class. He urged fear of God and the keeping of commandments as the basis of wisdom and cautioned that education without religion misses a key life component. He urged using knowledge wisely and following the Bible as a guide into the next life phase.

Seniors Host Class Night Amid Heat at High School

The Class of 1939 held its annual Class Night in the high school auditorium Tuesday evening. Despite warm temperatures, seniors delivered strong performances across Will, Prophecy, History, and Giftatery. Highlights includedProcessional by Miss Vesta Mills and remarks by Grover Burgan, with Dr. Howard Y. McClusky delivering the address from the U of M School of Education.

High School Alumni Banquet Plans Evening Program

Plans for the alumni banquet include a 7 o'clock dinner on Friday followed by an attractive program and additional activities. The event continues a long-standing school tradition with faculty and former students expected to attend.

World of Tomorrow themed annual business meeting banquet

The annual meeting will feature a banquet program with the theme The World of Tomorrow. To be held at 10 o'clock with toasts by Leigh Townsend class of 1904 and Mrs Alta Briggs McLean class of 1889. A good orchestra has been engaged. Townspeople not attending the banquet will be welcome to attend the accompanying event.

The program lists awards for valedictorian Ruth Gable and sabutatorian Jean Fosdick, citizenship recipients Doris Henne and Bob Vaughn, plus numerous H M and forensics honors. Saline F P A chapter elects new officers for 1939 40

The Saline chapter of the F P A held its final meeting before summer with strong attendance and held the annual election for 1939 40. Officers named include President Robert Vaughn Vice President Wesley Steiner Secretary Hilton Hieber Treasurer Burl Bassett Reporter Jack Howes Conductor Duane Robison. Retiring officers are Elwin Finkbeiner Leon Feldkamp Armin Haeussler and Glenn Weber.

Vacation Bible School at Methodist Church

The daily vacation Bible school starts Monday June 12 at the Methodist church. Open to children ages six to 13 with classes from 9 00 to 11 30 daily for two weeks. No enrollment charge. daily offerings fund free textbooks. Parents please bring children to the church Monday at 9 00.

Girls to Play Softball This Summer at School

All girls wishing to play softball this summer should attend a 6 30 pm meeting at the school on Thursday. A practice game is set for Sunday against Manchester girls. Tennis Court Project Completed by Legion Auxiliary

The Legion Auxiliary completed a tennis court project with 22 Ford project workers from Brooklyn aiding. The auxiliary hosted a fine dinner and the Legion members provided supper, praising community cooperation and noting courts will see heavy use in vacation months. The Brooklyn softball team tied for first in the Jackson county league as Saline wishes a successful season.

Interesting Program At Rotary Meeting

Walter Staebler of Ann Arbor presented an animated slide show for the Rotary luncheon, with photographs and drawings of prehistoric giant animals including dinosaurs. Some images came from the Museum of Natural History in New York City. Rotarian MacPeek assisted, Hussey unable to attend.

Local Young Man to Be Ordained Sunday

Arnold Lambarth, a local youth and son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lambarth, will be ordained at St. Pauls church on Sunday June 11. He studied in Saline schools and Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis. Rev Wittbracht, pastor of St. Pauls, will officiate alongside Rev Paul Irion of Michigan City Indiana and Rev Bauman of Freedom. Irion will deliver the sermon. The service marks a notable milestone for a long serving pastor who has baptized and confirmed hundreds and conducted many funerals.

Call of the Cross shown at St Thomas Lutheran church

A moving picture film titled The Call of the Cross will be shown at St. Thomas Lutheran church one mile north of Pleasant Lake Thursday at 8 p m. The film portrays the pioneer life of German settlers and Lutheran immigrants. All are invited and encouraged to bring friends.
