Thirty Years Ago in Transvaal Crowned and Reign

Thirty years ago Lord Roberts raised the British flag over the Boer capital and was proclaimed king in the Transvaal. Obituaries note William Lindsley’s sudden death at the home of Lorenzo Haight. born October 23, 1840 in Ohio. Weather stories speak of a heavy rain drencher causing cellar floods and damaged culverts. A ten pound boy welcomed Elmer and Mrs Stimson’s household. Anna Jedele seeks treatment after mental distress following her sister’s death. General Otis says little about the Philippines beyond hemp, sugar, and tobacco. Local notes report Charles Horton selling berries after a good crop and a bank lemon tree yield of 21 lemons and 27 oranges, challenging grafting notions.
