The Michigan Corporation and Securities Commission warns of fraudulent oil securities and overriding royalties sold to the public. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Lewis D. Millman and Attorney General Raymond W. Starr offer cooperation to prosecutors, noting many complaints of defrauded investors.
An inspector of the Bureau of Weights and Measures took a grocer’s son into custody in a nearby city after the youth admitted planning short weighing orders inspired by his father’s boasting of a fraudulent profit. He also admitted systematically ringing up all money for six months. The court rebuked the father, noting his own cheating of customers in his son’s presence.
A reader stresses pedestrian rights over reckless drivers and recalls a Sunday storm fire that destroyed a barn on the Anthony Lipton farm north of Carleton. Eugene Wickenheiser and Lipton saved two cows and two horses as flames consumed the barn after a lightning strike.
