Remarkable 98th Birthday Honor for Mrs Fredericka McBride Saline

Saline notes a life marked by German roots in Wurtemberg migration from Arbor to farm homes, long service in WCTU and suffrage support, church devotion, and community roles. Born 1861, she spent years in Dundee before settling with sisters in Saline in 1927 and remains active and beloved by the community.

Annual Church School Picnic Planned by Congregation

A church meeting set final plans for the annual Church School picnic after morning worship. It will be at Saline Park this Sunday with rain contingency in the church dining room. Table committee includes Harold Finch, Lewis Ernst, Hazen Jewell, Alastair McPhee. Families should bring table service and a basket lunch to share. After dinner there will be games and contests for all ages run by the High School class under Mrs. Howard Kuhl, with prizes and church transportation available.

Blood Bank to Visit Saline July 23rd

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Saline on July 23 after a January 1956 visit yielded 29 pints. The drive aims for 125 pints with three fourths sent to local banks and one fourth to national uses. Rotary Club support funds donor refreshments while Universal Die Casting allows employee time off to donate.

Mrs Hulda Armbruster of Saline Dies at 72

Hulda A Armbruster 72 of Saline died yesterday at St Josephs Hospital Ann Arbor after an illness. She lived at 9234 Austin Rd Bridgewater and was born July 2 1885 in Lodi Twp. Survived by four children LeRoy Melvin Mrs Otto Wahl and Mrs Russell Wilson five grandchildren two sisters. Funeral Friday 2 PM at Bethel Evangelical and Reformed Church Freedom Twp with Rev T W Menzel officiating. Burial in church Cemetery. Body in state from noon Friday. Friends may call at home before service.

Ice Cream Social Planned at Federated Church Lawn

Federated Church hosts an Ice Cream Social on July 24 from 6 to 10 pm on church lawn. A one year old Saline girl was among five finalists in a county wide Fourth of July beauty contest in Ypsilanti. Pat McDougall Bemis Road Saline entered Miss Legionaire by application and photo. Preliminary judging at Waterworks Park selected five finalists from about fifty girls based on poise personality and beauty. A party at the Legion post screened the finalists and the queen and her court were announced.

Glenn Hagen, a Capital University student in Columbus entering his third year as a Speech major, filled the St Pauls Church pulpit in the minister’s absence. He spoke on Christian discomforts, and plans to pursue seminary studies after graduation. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Hagen of Saline.
