Bees Improve Orchard Yields via Pollenization Demonstrations

Virgil N. Argo supervises Ohio State University demonstrations showing bees boost orchard production without honey. In Waterville an orchard rented 104 colonies boosting a four acre damson plum plot by 200 bushels selling at $2 a bushel. The Milford Center tests with 20 colonies in Minkler apples yielded 261.5 bushels from 47 trees, versus 126.5 bushels from 35 trees not reached by bees, with pollen aided by nearby bouquet sources. Further study is planned this year.
