Farmer Turns Water Faucet Yields Record Corn in 1947
Harold Lenhardt on 80 acres near Fort Morgan irrigated from the South Platte Valley system produced 163.8 bushels per acre, winning the 1947 DeKalb Corn Growing Championship and the Colorado State Championship. Fellow irrigators Sonn, Edwin Friehans of Brush earned 161.6 bushels per acre for second, while W E Ambrose of Fort Morgan claimed third with 150.3. The contest used 5 acre plots with fertilizer 2-12-6 and May 25 planting.
