Ninety Third Birthday Celebrations Keep Community Active

Relatives and friends called on Fred Kayer to congratulate him on his 93rd birthday while he recovers from flu. Neighbors visited Julius Lindenschmidt's home to honor his mother Mrs. Lydia Lindenschmidt for her 87th birthday with cake ice cream and jello. The Ladies Aid of Trinity Lutheran Church sent a postcard shower in tribute.

World Day of Prayer From Interdenominational Group

The World Day of Prayer observed under the United Council of Church Women will be held Friday February 25 at 8 p.m. in St Pauls church with the Women's Guild hosting. Invitations extended to all local churches to join in the interdenominational observance. The offering supports missionary work through the United Council of Church Women.

Otto Wahl Promoted to Sergeant Leads Machine Gun Unit

Otto Wahl, brother of David, Jacob and Rudolph Wahl, promoted to staff sergeant and leads a machine gun section in the Sixth Army. A veteran of one campaign against the Japs, he once carried a machine gun into a tree to show it could be done. The jungle camp swarmed with activity as supplies were sorted and crews built racks and platforms.

Wagner Murray Bill Debated By Rotary Club Last Week

At The Tavern meeting last Thursday noon, discussion of the Wagner Murray bill drew strong opposition. The proposal would create a Washington body to control doctors and hospitals, impose heavy costs, and limit patient choice. Local guests included George Lewis, Alex Fox, Fred Greenstreet, T. B. Nilsen, and others from Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Clinton, and nearby towns.

County Selective Service Board will reclassify all farm boys with 2C and 3C agricultural deferments. Based on files and 1943 1944 farm programs, blanks were provided at a Hill auditorium meeting in Ann Arbor. Registrants fill forms and submit to county agricultural war board for review and filing.

Milk Subsidy Payments Scheduled for February

January milk and butterfat subsidy payments will be issued in the last half of February at the AAA office in Ann Arbor located at 201 East Liberty Street. Producers should bring or mail their statements to receive payment by draft at 35 cents per 100 pounds for milk and 5 cents per pound for butterfat. Future month payments remain undetermined.
