A smooth talking canvasser visited a Michigan village offering subscriptions to the Literary Digest and other periodicals for 7.56 dollars, promising a bound Webster’s dictionary as a reward. More than a dozen citizens took the bait but never received magazines or the dictionary, while notices say their notes are due. The Grandville Star warns readers to distrust such offers and decline cold callers.

Catherine Harriet Davenport died January 30 1922 at the home of her daughter Mrs C F Burkhart. Born October 14 1548 in Macon she married Humphrey Davenport in 1864 and had two children Eva Rogers who died earlier and Mrs C F Burkhart who survives. Surviving relatives include sister Mrs Robert Ambrose Grand Rapids and brother Charles Booth Lake Ridge with three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Saline Woman's Club Hosts Meeting at Mrs Sed Home

The Saline Woman's Club met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. Focd Sed's home. Ros eall spoke on Happenings in Michigan, with papers on Prison Reform and The Prisoners' Side A Human Document presented by Mrs. Schnebelt and Mrs. Burkhart. Audrey Jordan sang, time prevented the parliamentary drill, and a plea was made to start at 2 30. Next meeting titled Guest Night will be at Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss on February 21.
