Saline politics and bank robbery headlines stir weekly notes
The column satirically covers a string of local issues from bank robbery headlines to Saline city council disputes and the rise of a Saline Area Democrats group. It notes election procedure flaws and calls for healthy competition while lampooning one party dominance.
Kern's City Council Seat Disputed by Bennett
The Saline city council faces a dispute over the seat currently held by Charles Kern with Jackson T. Bennett claiming improper recount procedures. Bennett sought to depose Kern after losing by two votes in the November election. Kern is to appear before Circuit Judge James R. Breakey Jr. on February 4 to show cause why Bennett's suit should not proceed. The council also plans a February 5 meeting with township reps to discuss fire department radio equipment and cost prorating. Building permits were issued to Raymond Mallory and Jackson Bennett, and a inquiry about replacing a burned paint shop prefab building was received from the Community Ford Sales leaseholder.
