Saline High honors 1939 football squad at banquet
About 250 attended Saline High School's 1939 football banquet in the school gym. Sixty six recipients earned letters and numerals, with Don Fuller presenting awards to captain Tuffy Klager and selecting Bernard Bamner as captain-elect for 1940. A land donation by Mrs. Ella Henne for a new athletic field was announced, along with a trophy gift from Mrs. C. F. Unterkircher for annual intramural prizes.

Aaron Luckhardt, Pioneer Citizen, Passes After Illness
Aaron Luckhardt longtime resident dies at home after several weeks illness and stroke. Born November 24, 1861 in Freedom township to Michael and Christina Armbruster Luckhardt. Survived by wife Rosie Pauline Lindemann and seven children along with 25 grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters. Funeral services held at his residence and St. Pauls Evangelical Church with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

Saline Traffic Ordinance amendment sets speed limits citywide
The ordinance amends Saline traffic rules governing speed on public streets within the city. It prescribes penalties up to ninety days in jail or a fine up to one hundred dollars for violations. Speed limits include ten mph in alleys or turns, twenty mph near schools, twenty five mph in business and most residential districts, and thirty five mph on Michigan Avenue residential areas. The measure takes effect upon publication, dated December 11, 1939.

Warden Jackson Talks Prison Work to Rotary Club
Warden Jackson of the State Prison at Jackson addressed the Rotary Club at The Tavern last Thursday. He described the world’s largest prison with 4200 acres farmed for produce and a 98 percent release rate, noting 800 workers on the farm and a strong recreational program. He praised Boy Scouts and service clubs for youth, and invited the club to visit the institution. Coach Donald Fuller attended and thanked the banquet hosts. G Claude Drake of Ann Arbor and J Alfred Bosworth of Ypsilanti were also present.

Roscoe O. Bonisteel of Ann Arbor presided at the Saline lodge installation Friday night assisted by William Austin. Officers installed include Worshipful Master George Austin and Senior Warden George J. Brookins with refreshments after by the Eastern Star. Mrs. George Braun, 66, of Saline County, died in Santa Ana California last Thursday with services held there Saturday. she was formerly Clara Reimold of Freedom Township. Surviving are husband four stepchildren two brothers a sister and another sister who died in September.
