Michigan voters face April votes on amendments and school funds
Michigan voters may decide next April on two constitutional amendments. The Michigan Education Association backs earmarking state funds for education, with Governor elect Frank Fitzgerald pledging support for statutory school funding and a $44 million annual state appropriation. An additional amendment would remove judges from politics by listing nonpartisan candidates for courts. Petitions for the Non-Partisan Judiciary Committee have been filed, a concept previously rejected four years ago by 80,000 votes. The piece also notes Townsendites claiming credit for Fitzgerald’s victory and cites Loren D. Dickinson of Charlotte for lieutenant governor influence.
