Scrap Harvest To Salvage War Materials From Farms
Michigan launches Scrap Harvest to salvage scarce war materials from farms and rural areas in a state wide program. Gov Murray D Van Wagoner and Herbert L Gutterson lead the effort with Kenneth M Burns directing the salvage committee. Local depots and farm dealers will collect and transport scrap to designated stations. The Farm Equipment Institute and National Farm Equipment Association aid, with proceeds supporting local war charities if funds remain. The agriculture committee rechecks civilian volunteer lists to prepare for farm labor needs in 1943. The Defense Council distributes 100 000 Civilian Defense creeds and adds Dr Clarence W Muehlberger as gas consultant to the Civilian Defense Corps.
