Market Your Grain Through Livestock
Michigan State College animal husbandry division members say livestock offers the best market for current grain prices. Calves bought for experiments cost 7.50 per cwt and sold at the same, with gains covering grain costs of ground parsley 1.48 shelled corn 1.39 and ground oats 1.30 per cwt. Lambs offer good returns with roughage and grain fed in forced feeding and lambs selling at the same price per pound as paid. Pigs also market grain well when protein supplements like skim milk or tankage are added. dry-lot feeding without protein is costly.
