Highway of redwoods and the Save the Redwoods League

Lewis Gannett reflects in the New York Herald Tribune on California’s Redwood Highway through giant groves. He notes the towering redwoods, the Founders Tree, public and private groves saved as state parks, and the clash between ancient forests and modern motorized progress along the Klamath and along routes that threaten remaining stands. The piece contrasts prehistoric grandeur with contemporary throughput and questions where redwoods fit in a world of cars and global finance.
