Rainbow Trout Preferences During The 1951 Season

The conservation department expects brook trout to lead catches in 1951 with rainbow and brown following. Creel data show 65-80 percent brook, 12-20 percent rainbow, 8-15 percent brown in annual trout harvests. Since 1942 trout waters yield 0.7–0.9 fish per hour, less than inland non trout waters. Brown trout feed mostly at night, limiting its daytime catch.

Milk Production In Michigan Mirrors Downward Trend

Detroit area milk production lags behind last year as more shippers quit the market. March receipts fell over four percent year over year while the number of producers dropped by 511 for the year and 44 fewer farms joined in March. Shipments averaged two pounds more than a year ago amid concerns of a possible late year shortfall unless producer prices rise to align milk returns with other inflated sectors. The federal marketing order for Detroit remains under review by the U S Department of Agriculture with a final order likely after producer reviews, potentially by May, followed by two months to implement.
