A new radio service for Michigan fruit growers began last week through the U S Weather Service and Michigan State College horticultural department. A London period forecast focusing on wind and rain is relayed from Chicago to East Lansing for broadcast at 12 noon on WKAR and via WWJ Detroit News. A 3:00 pm slot may follow on WWJ. The service aids spray planning and field work. Corn borer updates also go out at noon from WKAR to inform farmers in the 23 affected areas, delivering quick briefings to support the cleanup effort.

Heavier oat yields follow good plowing practice
Michigan crop officials cite master farmer Paul Clement of Monroe county as proving heavier oats follow deep plowing on heavy land rather than disking. Clement reports 108 bushels per acre in 1926, 103 in 1925, and 95 in 1924, with all fields yielding at least 80 bushels. The approach includes fall or spring plowing, disk and cultipacker, then drilled oats, to combat the European corn borer.
