Republicans Gain in Michigan Legislative Scene Amid Debates
The Kansas-like Michigan scene sees Republicans triumph in state offices while Dems gain a dull majority in the House due to illness among a Republican member. Key items include a northern tuberculosis sanatorium plan at Gaylord with $250,000, the Thatcher school aid bill likely reduced by five million, and sales tax exemptions for staple foods. The session rushes toward adjournment as budget bills loom and Gov. Fitzgerald vetoes a measure expanding the lieutenant governor’s salary and board role.
