Scrap Drives Urged as War Need Grows in Michigan

Ronald Rentschler, an eleven year old sixth grader, tops a Detroit paper spelling bee last Friday earning the right to represent Saline's grades five through eight in the regional contest this spring. Doris Alber, last year’s champion, finishes second on the word dairy. Joan Elsman places third. Teachers assisting were Mrs Hutzel Miss Dahlgren and Miss Carruthers. A sheep shearing school led by Prof E L Benton of Michigan State College was held at the Saline high school Ag department with 25 boys from Clinton Stockbridge and Saline. Seventy two sheep were shorn with electric chippers. the livestock was provided by Oral Bassett Dan Hertler and Clayton Ernst.
