St Johns Club Hosts Whit ney Boys Chorus Evening
St Johns Community Club held a large social meeting at the Y M C A building featuring the Whitney Boys Chorus a delightful concert. Miss Fay Palmer and Miss Meryl Bolen performed violin solos with Ruth Palmer on piano. Local officials and church members spoke on improving St Johns services and community life. The event closed with the Star Spangled Banner and refreshments. A Saturday church Ladies cooking sale was well patronized. The Young People host a Wednesday evening chorus practice in the side house now used as a social room.

An O A C extension exhibit led by T D Kirkpatrick in the Peninsula National Bank lobby showcased garden and food preservation efforts by Williams George Litton Peninsula and Portsmouth students. Prizes totaling 35 dollars for gardens and 25 dollars for general exhibits were funded by Peninsula National Bank and local firms. Numerous students earned awards in gardening canning bread making poultry and rabbit competitions.

The girls clubs resume regular meetings with good attendance. Interested joiners should call Empire 0057 or 1296 to register for sewing, millinery, gymnasium and dance classes starting next week in October. A December exhibition will showcase class work and an evening entertainment. Local committee members attended a noon meeting at the Central Association last Friday and discussed winter plans.
