Fourth of July Celebration in St Johns Features Parade and Pageantry
The St Johns Fourth of July event drew a fair crowd during the two and a half day holiday, starting with a morning parade led by the band. Highlights included an emigrant wagon float and a Goddess of Liberty with Miss Virginia Siefert, plus Mrs. Southmayd’s luxurious float. Dr. H F presided, Rev W B Kloster gave the invocation, Hon T J Cleeton spoke as orator, and Mrs J N Bartlett read the Declaration. The assembly sang America and a closing address by A G Johnson capped the program. prize winners to be listed next week. The Geneva Confectionery offered ice cream and light lunches nearby.

The Jugoslav Tamburica Orchestra showcases a versatile instrument blending mandolin banjo and guitar virtues. Its six players project sound comparable to eight or nine string groups, touring Eastern Southern and Middle Western states with Ellison White directing a Chautauqua Coast tour and a full afternoon concert slated for the fourth day.

Community Club plans fall band and civic projects
The St Johns Community Club adjourned for summer after a meeting at the WC A building. A band for the club was approved with Gaar as director and AEK Jones as manager, using the building basement for practice. The group also urged speed on a new high school project and invited the Fraternal Boosters to a September meeting.
