Charles L. Miner, who recently underwent a serious operation in a Portland hospital, has returned home much improved in health.
The Portland Library Association will open the late St Johns branch around December 15. The 100 by 150 foot site at Kellogg and Charleston streets adjoins the school and playground, forming a civic center with a large lecture room and movable furniture to accommodate up to 300 for public meetings. The design includes child friendly low shelves, glass front cases for exhibits, and separate reading areas. one librarian may supervise all views, with future growth planned. Johnson and Mayer are the architects, and the building will be frame with a brick veneer.
The Knights of Pythias held a Friday evening housewarming at their new Bickner hall in place of the former Odd Fellow hall at Jersey and Leavitt. Geo F Black J B Hiller and others spoke while card games and old fashioned dances drew the crowd, making the event a lively family gathering with plans for more entertainments.

Multiple actions followed including sidewalk proposals, dock repair exchange with Warren Construction, bids for Fox street upgrades, and ordinances on Burlington Street sidewalks and fire department insurance. The Railway Commission sought power rates from Portland Railway, Light and Power Co. and a public complaint invitation was set.
