London Bridge Crumbles Beside Adams Street
Wendelin Allen of 73 Helen, St. Charles, driving on Adams from Main, watched a large chunk of the old bridge collapse onto his car hood. The 50 pound concrete slab, unmarked, forced highway workers to place barriers and halt traffic while he escaped unharmed though startled by the falling structure.

Diana Award Presented to Mrs. Josephine Meier in Community Service
Mrs. Josephine Meier获 Diana Award for distinguished service to the community. The honor was announced at a Boy's Club awards reception Saturday night where Rho Chi Chapter president Mrs. Charles Cavenar and Beta Eta Chapter president helped present. First Runner-up was Mrs. Arthur Wilke and Second Runner-up Mrs. George Null. Other nominees listed included Mrs. Barbara Barnett and Mrs. Harriet Wayne. Judges named were Rev. Thomas Santon and Mrs. Otto Thiele. special guest speaker was Mrs. Ben Holbert, last year’s recipient.

Mrs Meier, a St Charles resident, is nominated for the International Diana Award to be presented at the International ESA Convention in Salt Lake City in July. The winner receives an expense paid trip to Utah and a special presentation. She helped set up the Odessa Gift Shop at St Joseph's Hospital and expanded it many times.
