Bare Bones County Budget Overruns in St Charles

St Charles County officeholders confront a bare bones 1977 budget that exceeds anticipated general fund revenues by about 285 thousand dollars, with final figures expected to rise to around 400 thousand after remaining departments report. County Court and Auditor aim to trim the overage through meetings this week to hold expenditures near a red line and preserve funds for a 1979 revenue cut, amid two newly added departments and varied requests across 50 general fund divisions.

HUD cuts force Parkridge utility allowance rise at Parkridge

Charles City Housing Authority faces a multi thousand dollar shortfall next year after HUD ordered sharply higher tenant utility allowances at Parkridge Apartments. Current averages of 6 to 6 become 18 for one bedroom and 31 for four bedrooms. Officials cite outdated 1971 levels and a misbelief that water is provided by the Authority as reasons for the jump.
