Thadeus Pellegrin a Houma 4-H member produced 122.85 bushels of marketable Irish potatoes from a quarter acre winning a free trip to Chicago for the National Club Congress in November. The event, in its third year, was held with the Chilean Nitrate Educational Bureau backing prizes. Pellegrin used a 4-19-7 mix with antopate soda, total potato value $70 and net profit $52.85 after seed and fertilizer costs.
John W. Bateman chosen to direct the agricultural extension division at Louisiana State University succeeding W. B. Mercier who resigns for health reasons but will remain as adviser. Appointment takes effect October 1. Bateman previously served as assistant director of rotational agriculture for the state department of education and is a native of Washington parish.
