Grand Jury Reviews Forty Six Complaints in Five Day Session

The Grand Jury adjourned after a five day session in Lincoln Parish Louisiana examining 46 complaints and returning 31 true bills and 15 not true bills. Members listed include W W Durden as foreman and J B Napper among others. The jury commended the Police Jury for courthouse improvements and urged enforcement of laws while noting minor offenses were mostly handled by the sheriff’s department.

Ruston Scouts Jamboree Draws Strong Local Support

A Ruston Scout Jamboree at Memorial Park drew acclaim with events at the new municipal pool. Troops 45 47 46 40 competed earning top marks while Sea Scouts, led by H. J. Nelikin, joined field events. Local officials and organizations supplied prizes and food as Kiwanis backed the park gathering highlighting Scouting's importance to Lincoln Parish.

Wright Entered Race for Lincoln Parish State Representative

Ashley Wright, superintendent of buildings and grounds at Louisiana Tech, announces his candidacy for state representative from Lincoln parish. He is the sixth entrant, cites voter solicitation from across the parish, and has long ties to Ruston including a 1926 appointment at the college and service on the city council. Other candidates listed are G. B. Roberts, Bel McCrtlum, Bert Lenox, G. A. Adams, and Wilson Haralson.

Dubach Man Released After Grand Jury Testimony

John Denton of Dubach was freed by the court Saturday after completing his Grand Jury testimony. The judge withdrew the jail sentence for contempt but cautioned him he faced a perjury charge due to conflicting statements between his first appearance and today’s testimony. He admitted falsity of his initial statements and offered to call witnesses to prove today’s account. No additional charges were filed at this time.

Monroe Truck Driver Arrested On Speeding Charge

Tony Embanote a Monroe truck driver was arraigned in district court on a speeding and reckless driving charge. He pleaded not guilty, posted a 250 dollar bond, and his trial was set for Monday September 26.

Two Negroes Identified in Confidence Game Case

Thompson and Cyrene Wilson, both identified as suspects, face charges in the October district court session. A local woman previously accused them. the district attorney will prosecute. Sheriff Thigpen reports deputies active amid grand jury preparations. Amelia Earhart’s alleged crash noted during Michigan State Fair landing.

Rare Display to Highlight Lincoln Parish Free Fair

A natural history exhibit, reputed among the best of its kind, will be displayed at the Lincoln Parish Free Fair October 14 to 17. It will be entered by R H Murdough, Camp Ranger and Museum Director, Camp Ki Ro Li. The exhibit comes at the suggestion of E R Strahan, county agent for agricultural and home economics extension. Also noted is Capt Wolfgang von Cronall who recently crossed the Atlantic aboard Inez after two Arctic flights from Germany.

Parish Exhibition Cattle Selected for State Fair Show

J A Shealy parish fan agent announced Monday that the 4 H Club daily calves prepared for the State Fair and Lincoln Parish Free Fair have been selected and are under blanket or special feed for showing. He added that several other dairy cattle were chosen for exhibition and believed Lincoln Parish would hire top dairy exhibits to the state this year.
