In a leader straw poll conducted in Ruston and Lincoln Parish, state Senator Willie Rainach, a Summerfield segregationist, led with about 18 percent of the votes, more than tripling his nearest rival James A. Noe who had around 6 percent. Other governors hopefuls trailed, with Morrison at 18 percent, Jimmie Davis at 12 percent, and the rest around one percent. The poll hints at early political trends and possible ballot-cheating concerns. Rainach drew sizable crowds in Park. Morrison and Noe campaigned locally, while Shreveport Journal endorsed Rainach.

Pigs and Lambs Bring Top Prices at Lincoln Parish Fair
At the Lincoln Parish Fair in Ruston on October 8 juniors sold pigs and lambs for top prices. Pigs averaged twenty nine cents per pound with a total of 876.45 dollars paid for fifteen pigs. Top pig price was forty cents per pound for a 200 pound animal owned by Jerry Mitchell. Lambs averaged eight and eight tenths cents per pound with caprall cathey’s Lynch selling for 1.30 per pound. Numerous buyers included Rustern Stock Yards owner Norman Terrill, Buck Green County Agent, and Ruston State Bank among others. Multiple pigs were purchased by individuals and local businesses, with varied buyers across the parish community.

The United States Census plans a five school training program in Monroe and Ches to prepare 24 crew leaders and 318 enumerators for northern parishes. Mrs. June C.
