50 Million Gifts For Overseas Needy Planned
Christmas Gifts for the World, a private nonprofit foundation, seeks to distribute 60 million gifts this winter to needy people through Relief Services and Foster Parents' Plan, Inc. Financiers and businessmen are urged to donate to overseas agencies and write ten or more letters to friends and associates to encourage giving. The three agencies will select recipients by need, without regard to race or creed, with each gift labeled as a friendship from the American people. The plan, devised by Edward A. Merkle, president of the Madison Fund, was inspired by stark contrasts between American abundance and foreign poverty witnessed abroad.
