Louisiana cotton acreage to rise as Plan B expands plantings
Editorial notes early indications of a larger Louisiana cotton acreage for 1959 driven by USDA Plan B allowing 40 percent above regular allotments for 2,912 growers. Statewide allotment rises to 601,254 acres from 578,579, with 22,675 extra acres. Expect more fertilizer, insecticide, labor, and gin activity, benefiting farm communities despite soil bank payments masking some income changes.
