Natchitoches group to visit Lincoln dairy farms today

A caravan of about one hundred Natchitoches parish farmers and their wives will tour Lincoln parish dairy farms Saturday. They will stop at the Jack Riser and A. H. Henderson Jersey farms, have lunch, and attend a public meeting at the chamber of commerce before visiting Henry Hinton’s dairy. The trip aims to study tick free dairy development amid tick-eradication legislation.

Concubinage Charge To Be Tried Here

Hub Barnette and Hattie Wilder were arrested on a concubinage charge after complaints from Ward Two residents claimed Barnette’s alleged common law wife Wilder had lived with him for months. Deputies found a sawed off shotgun at Barnette’s home, linked to a planned Bernice bank robbery. The pair were released on bond and will face trial at the next court term.

Fast Driver Arrested After Wreck West of Ruston

Riley Wilford was jailed on a wreckless driving charge after attempting to pass a Ford Coupe driven by D. Secord at high speed seven miles west of Ruston. Secord suffered severe bruises and back injuries. he was treated at the Ruston-Lincoln sanitarium.

Hunter Lewis Injured After Bicycle Fall Near Hillcrest

Hunter Lewis 22, son of Mr and Mrs W J Lewis, suffered head bruises and a slight concussion when the bicycle he rode on with J W Breedlove hit a ditch and crashed into a telephone post near Hillcrest grammar school. Breedlove uninjured, called Hunter’s mother. doctor said condition not serious and he regained consciousness at home. Aristotle quote.

McBride Seeks District Attorney Post in Louisiana

Captain Walton E. McBride of Ruston announces candidacy for district attorney in the third judicial district of Louisiana, covering Lincoln Jackson and Union parishes. A World War I veteran and practicing attorney, he seeks the Democratic primary on September 9, 1930, stressing law and order and asking voters for consideration.

Dairy picture show series to tour Illinois Central towns

Beginning May 5 a free picture show on dairying will tour Simsboro Bernice Dubach Ruston and Choudrant under the Dairy Development Bureau of the Illinois Central Railroad. The program aims to educate citizens and especially youth and adults about dairying practices.

Bohler named Louisiana Tech athletics head

George M. Bohler, former head of physical education at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Auburn, Ala, is selected to succeed Ted Rockwell as Louisiana Tech director of athletics and head football coach. Lincoln Parish High School Graduates May Fifteenth

Seventy five boys and girls from Lincoln parish will receive diplomas from five high schools at commencement May 15 led by Ruston High with 97 graduates. Choudrant Dubach Simsboro and Hico account for the remainder as commencement week opens May 11 with a sermon and May 14 grammar exercises and May 15 analytic exercises.

City Jail Receives First Class Upgrades

Concrete mixer and building equipment arrive at the city jail this morning to refloor with concrete and repaint interior walls. Mayor Charles Goeyne says new lights plumbing fixtures will be installed to house city prisoners, while parish jail has housed them for two years due to city jail conditions.

Tax Assessor's Sister Buried in Jonesboro

Funeral services for Dora E. Colvin sister of Jonesboro tax assessor R. R. Hightower were held at the family residence on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. She died Wednesday night after a nineteen year illness. Survivors include children Elia Terrill Vera Palmer Mattle Mae Cook Rufus B. Colvin A. H. Colvin and two brothers Allen A. Hightower and R. R. Hightower of Ruston. Interment followed at Jonesboro cemetery.

Ruston Boy Joins United Press in Memphis Assignment

Lincoln parish clubs increase by 100 members in a year

County Agent J A Shealy reports 125 members a year ago and 225 now enrolled in Lincoln parish clubs. About 40 calf clubs and the rest poultry or garden clubs reflect growing interest as over 3,000 baby chicks are purchased and most boys own calves. All 35 youths surveyed wish to live on a farm.

Young Woman Killed by Car Near Arcadia

Miss Lurene Rasbury, 11, daughter of Jake Rasbury near Arcadia, was dragged to death after cranking a stalled car in gear. She died en route to Ruston Lincoln sanitarium after stating she was dying. Burial planned near Arcadia Friday. The tragedy occurred near the Ernest Jones farm.

Commissary at Dubach Burns in Tuesday Night Fire

A fire started about 2:15 near a potato curing house by the Rock Island railroad at Dubach, destroying the old potato curing house and the Dubach Lumber commissary. Merchandise had been moved from the warehouse. a nearby storehouse also burned. Some company records were kept in a vault and their fate is uncertain.
