Wesley Chapel Clubhouse Meeting Highlights Community Event

The Community Clubs of Antioch Hilly Greenville and Wesley Chapel met at Wesley Chapel Clubhouse on April 26. Frank Trussell chaired Antioch and led a brief program with songs readings and a short playlet. A refreshment committee decided to invite Mr Reese and Mr Took of Houston to give talks to raise funds for lemonade supplies.

Douglas Community Notes April events and gatherings

Families from Monroe Ruston Shreveport and nearby areas visited relatives in Douglas. Local activities included a class party for Ruth Sanderson Choudrant, a 22 to 2 baseball win for Epworth League, a Dairy School night, and a pie supper at New Hope Douglas School inviting girls to bring pies and boys to bring dough. College Nurses Report Healthful Year At La. Tech

Louisiana Tech reports a healthy year with no contagious diseases on campus. Last year saw mumps smallpox and measles cases. this year adds three girl appendicitis and two boy appendicitis cases. Tonsillitis and influenza were most prevalent, especially in fall and winter. Students go to the infirmary for care and nurses handle routine needs with physician calls as needed. Student fees cover nursing care. doctor bills are extra.

Old Tax Receipt From 1851 for $1.50 Taxes

A reader notes one of the oldest receipts in the area, issued in Union parish to J. B. Tubbs in 1851 by the tax-collector, and now in the possession of Dave Dawson. The document lists $1.50 in taxes.

Antioch Women and Clubs Share Social Weekend

The Women's Missionary Society met at Mrs. C. L. Trussell’s home with co host Miss Mildred Saint 98 presiding. Devotional by Grandmother Trussell and a social hour led by Saint featured games and light refreshments. Antioch Community Club partnered with Wesley Chapel and Hilly Clubs for a program at Wesley Chapel Club House with songs readings and talks. Simsboro circuit quarterly conference held at Antioch on Sunday.

Charming Minden Girl Weds Harold J. Hanson

Miss Flavia Wilkinson of Minden married Harold J. Hanson last Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian manse in Minden. Rev. W. F. OKelley officiated in the presence of family members. Mrs. Hanson had been teaching at Cotton Valley School. Mr. Hanson works in the Louisiana and Arkansas Railway offices. They will reside in Minden amid many congratulations.
