The Health Nova Institute reports that each new drug implies about 6 000 000 in industry reserved and development costs as part of the total pharmaceutical research effort. The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association notes 170 000 000 spent in U.S. research and development in 1958 plus 7 160 000 in grants and gifts to medical facilities.
