Lincoln Parish Police Jury met in regular session at the Ruston courthouse on July 11 1961 at 9:00 pm with President John A. Mitchell and members present. They approved minutes, heard reports from County Agent F O LeVasseur, and adopted multiple resolutions authorizing gravel road work rural route improvements and a bituminous overlay project with bids to be opened. a library demonstration funding of 2500 was approved and a property tax election planned. executive session then adjourned.

Nationwide 4 H Club hog projects show profitable outcomes as members breed feed show and market hogs. About 170,000 youths raised over 500000 hogs in the 4 H swine program last year under the National 4 H Service Committee.

Jackson Parish 4-Hers Attend Short Course at LSU
Twenty one Jackson Parish 4-H members attended the 47th annual 4-H Short Course at the LSU Baton Rouge campus July 17 29. Participants earned high marks in dairy and livestock judging crop judging and public speaking. Lowell Lynde placed fourth in state crop judging with 554 of 600. Elmer Lamkin narrowly lost a council seat.

Legion Delegation Attends 43rd State Convention in Shreveport
Ten members from the Ame rican Legion Post in Ruston attended the 43rd Annual State Convention in Shreveport. Charles Carter chaired the McFarland-McCallum Post delegation. attendees included Post Commander Jake Spears, Howard Davis, Judge C. A. Burnett, Sanders Baskin, Dewitt McFarland, Larry Fox, Raymond Heard, Jack Madden, and Sellers Blanton. The banquet honored past state commanders and presidents with Senator Atlen El lender as speaker. The top races saw Albert LaBiche beat Henry Clay for National Executive Committee man and J. B. Broussard win State Commander over Percy Lemoin. Vier Commanders were Charles Herring and Robert Tracy. The convention passed 15 resolutions and moved to action against communism. Local post officers will be installed August 10 by State View Commander Charles Herring.

Scott, pastor of Chatham Methodist Church, will attend the South Central Jurisdiction Regional Briefing Conference on Christian Social Concerns July 31 to August 3 at Mount Sequoyah Fayetteville Arkansas. Speakers include university and college theologians and staff from the General Board of Christian Social Concerns. Conference aims to discuss disarmament, anti communism, economic aid, United Nations, temperance and welfare with state and district leaders.

Recovery Squadron Opens Training at Selman Field
The 425th Air Force Reserve Recovery Squadron held first training July 15 16 at Selman Field Monroe with Reservists from Vidalia Tallulah and Crossett attending.
