Governor Long Bids to Kill Tick Bill if Funds Lacking

Baton Rouge July 1 Governor Long pledged to kill the tick bill and other compulsory appropriations unless funded beyond the 5 million dollars needed to operate the state and pay debts. Senate finance chair Dore outlined a cash basis aim, while health and liquidation loan questions were debated. a retrenchment move set health funding at 300000 annually.

The Louisiana Tax Commission will review Lincoln Parish assessments on Thursday the ith day of July 1930 at its office in Baton Rouge. Taxpayers with complaints or suggestions may appear on the date fixed or write to the Commission. Bossier Banner Celebrates 71st Birthday in Bellevue

Benton July 1 The seventy first anniversary of the founding of the Bossier Banner in Bellevue then the parish seat was celebrated at its present office of publication at this place. The Banner was first printed on an old fashioned Washington hand press hauled by ox team from Mansfield to Bellevue. After the parish seat moved to Benton in November 1890 the Banner removed its old press in April the following year. A concrete block had been prepared and the remains of the old press were hoisted in place by Dubois Simmons Milton Hays W R and J T Manry and A D Scanland, the proprietor. In the early days mail was sometimes received only at two week intervals and print paper was brought by skiff through Bodcaw from Shreveport.

Arrest Negro In Simsboro Thought Robber Of Store

Sim Roberson laborer on the highway at Simsboro was arrested and jailed by Sheriff A. J. Thigpen after tracing tracks from Will Houstons garage to a road camp. He is believed linked to the earlier theft at Cross and Napiers store in Simsboro last Saturday night.

Fatal blow ends youth boxing bout in McAlester

In McAlester Oklahoma on July 6 a friendly boxing match between Brice Sterling aged 12 and John Stevens aged 10 turned fatal when a blow to the heart struck Sterling during a revival gathering led by his father Cully Stevens. Sterling died almost instantly, with both boys in the punch bout on the outskirts of the crowd.
