Corinth Baptist Church hosted a pink and blue baby shower for Florene Brozeel on Thursday January 15. Guests arrived at 2 45 pm and played games with prizes won by Mary Fretwell and Andy Young. A demonstration on soothing a baby followed. Guests signed a baby book by Jimmie Hood. Refreshments featured pink and white mints and two cakes. Hosts Jimmie Hood and Forrest Post oversaw the tables with Andy Young serving drinks.
Mrs Ishtel Cooper visited Mrs FY Singleton and helped with a quilt. Many local residents including Mr and Mrs Alton Beckham, Mr and Mrs Reeve Hood from Washington, Mr and Mrs Larry Johnson, Mr and Mrs Herman Cobb, Roger and Gail, Olen Johnson, Alfred Marley and son, Howard Cooper with Elgin Cooper, Caven Cavor, Paul Tubbs visited or hosted relatives. Little Stevey Cooper stays with G P Cooper grandparents. Calvin Singleton weekend with Shelby Gene Casper. Mrs Davison poorly and hopes for recovery.
Mr and Mrs Drew Blatock and family of Jonesboro were guests of Mr and Mrs RB Blalock and family Sunday. Milas Rose Melbo Steywart aunt Miss Vernet Merida of Stonesherd were visitors in Thiston Monday. Mr and Mrs R T Norman Jr were visitors in Shreveport Saturday. Mrs Norman's sister Mrs 11 A Graves of 1633 Vivian St Shreveport came home with their forty Awe Weeks visit. Mrs Graves will be guest of her parents and sisters. The many friends of Mrs We Peppers of Ruston and Mrs Rosa Lee Rhodes of Gilberts La express sympathy in the loss of their daughter and minister Mrs Rosa Peppers Lyles. May the Lord give comfort. Mr and Mrs Francis Leo Novmin and Cindy of Jonesboro visited Pine Bluff Ark. Guests in the home Sunday were Mrs Gs M Peter Me and Mrs Fred Bond Tortestu rm, Mr and Mrs Grady Bates Monroe, Mr and Mrs lint don teins Urania, Mr and Mrs Jack Shows of Jonesboro, Mr Pete Aldermain of Shreveport. Pork was a guest in the home of his minvi parents Mr and Mrs HW 1 I Cnr. Mrs Ora Broussarti of Alexandria was a guest last week of Mr and Mrs Peters. The many friends of Mr Calvin J Stroud extend sympathy by the death of his sister Mrs Jonnie Ruth Jackson of Shreveport. Mrs MH B Barnard and Patsy of Shreveport visited her sister Mrs O M Peters Sunday.
Mrs. F A Hinton and Rev Westbrook family members attended church and taught Sunday School. Communion observed after sermon. James Ellis returned from Ft Worth visit. Miss Ora Gene Clinton and Mrs Kendall stayed with Clinton family in Tarmer ville. Martha Willis visited from Epps La. Mrs Sallie Willett improving at sister Beatty’s home. Mrs J R Kinsman ill with poor appetite. Ruth Kavanaugh and Major Wood hosted guests including Gene Gray and Bennie Kendall. F A Hinton and Berry Hinton attended funeral of Thomas Patton of Houston Ark in Camden. Berry family members also present. Patton died after car crash December 28 and surgery January 47 leaves wife and three children.
Rev Roberts filled his regular appointment at Mineral Springs with a large crowd in attendance. Mrs Roberts teaches the Study Course The Book of Mark. The report covers community visits and church activities including local people attending sings, hospital visits, and a restaurant burglary where $5000 was taken from a safe.
Glen and Annie Dae Puckett and Judy Brothers relocate from Searcy Arkansas to Greenville. Harold Griffin and family welcome them as Mr Puckett plans to operate a mattress factory. Relatives include Nancy Brothers in Monroe finishing high school, Vera Calvin ill health, and Vera's sister Mrs Calhoun. Local visits and family stories fill a weekend scene with neighbors, kin, and small town chatter.
A January 10 Ruston Country Club event hosted by Kappa Sigma featured a French party with moss decor and candle centerpieces. Members wore attire described as Franel’s fashion, cards and favors distributed, and admission priced at one dollar with patrons given barters and free tea.
A Havana Cuba student from Louisiana Tech spoke at Simsboro High, interpreting for Rev. Blount of Grace Methodist Church. He discussed studying chemistry and English, and invited to visit Ruston.
