George Riser Named 1930 Tech Football Captain
George Riser of Ruston was elected captain by secret ballot for Louisiana Tech’s 1930 varsity Bulldog team with R. E. Gatlin of Colfax as alternate. Both juniors, Riser previously starred for Ruston High and played on Tech’s freshman squad in 1928. 1927 saw him sharing center duties on the Bulldog line.

Shreveport notes reveal two Louisiana Tech players, Riser and Gatlin, have earned two varsity football letters. Riser reentered Tech and starred as regular Bulldog catcher on the diamond, while Gatlin joined Tech in 1821 and practiced with the varsity in spring 1928. Arrest in Shreveport Blackmail Case by Phone Calls
Alfred Gardner, 21, of 1014 Sewall street, was arrested and charged with blackmail after police traced repeated telephone calls to a young saleswoman at a local department store. The caller, identified as a Black man, attempted to lure and threaten kidnap while claiming to speak with his wife. Gardner denied the allegations.

One of Parish's Oldest Citizens Goes to Reward
Tom Richardson age 85 prominent farmer and Lincoln’s longtime resident died at his home four miles southwest of here at 5 30 this morning after a lingering illness. Born and raised in this section he spent 62 years at the residence where he passed away. He was a respected citizen neighbor and Baptist church member. Funeral services will be at Cook Baptist church Cooktown with burial in Cook's cemetery Tuesday. Surviving are three daughters Mrs Harris Bryant Mrs W B Willis and Miss Nillie Richardson four sons J M J W W Jr and Gus of Ruston and Jabe of Arcadia a brother J R Richardson and sister Mrs Rene Wilder also survive.

Deputies Guy Braswell and Clyde Frasier arrested an elderly man who gave the name Jack Harrison and claimed to be over 70 when he tried to cash a forged check at Jims Kitchen. He was taken to the parish jail, found to be in need and unable to work, fed, clothed with aid from the Good Cheer club, and will be released when his condition allows.

A Shreveport deputy will escort him back toward Ruston, as the pair faced arrests across North Louisiana and Texas for issuing bad checks. Shields was nabbed in Arcadia after Thigpen learned of his travel through Ruston.

Bids were opened at 2 30 this afternoon in the James building for a new milk manufacturing plant organized as North Louisiana Milk Products Company Puil b Zelalie an architectural engineer from Douthitt Engineering Company of Chicago brought drawings and plans. The plant will be built north of Austen High School grounds along the Rock Island railroad tracks and is planned to be completed in stages with gut operation before the summary maths.
