New Orleans La Jan 16 Commerce of the port of New Orleans shows a steady year long rise in ocean vessel activity with a 13 percent gain in total tonnage. Through November 30 arrivals reached 3 228 averaging over 10 vessels per workday while the previous year had 2 084 vessels. Aggregate tonnage for the year ending November 30 was 12 755 736 up from 11 273 661. Much port outside limits is excluded with an estimated 4 000 000 tons going to Baton Rouge wharves. Wharf work and facilities expansion including a Bienville street reconstruction costing about 2 000 000 are planned. New services soon to begin are expected to boost port business.
