At Lafayette, Dr. Paul T. Hendershot urged boosting public education funding and enrollment while cautioning against overemphasis on stadiums and athletics. He warned welfare spending alone cannot solve welfare and argued for stronger classrooms, libraries, and lab supplies amid rising enrollments by 1971. Iberia Parish Schools Superintendent F O Wimberly compared state department expenditures as part of the discussion.
