Walmsley Wins New Orleans Mayoral Nomination and Victory

T Semmes Walmsley, acting mayor, secured the Democratic nomination for four years and appears set to win the city’s mayoralty. Early returns from 216 of 245 precincts show Walmsley ahead with a large majority over Francis Williams, with the old regular slate also leading in most races including District Attorney Eugene Stanley. Green flares signaled victory and while no disorders occurred, rumors of fatalities circulated. Downtown wards favored Williams while midtown and uptown backed Walmsley.
