Memorial Day services planned for April 30 at Saint Best Baptist Church with an invited attendance and dinner to follow. Local residents, including Rev. Bobby Pranklin and Ricki Jo Hood, attended gatherings around the community as extended family visited, offered sympathy, and shared meals.
Sunrise Taster Mrs A Ball reports sunrise services at Tatum's Pond Sunday at 6 o'clock. Pastors and members of all churches will join in the service and everyone is invited. Mrs J W Jones of Bastrop visited Mrs Robert Colvin and Mr R Sn Williams Monday. Mr and Mrs P Co Aycock visited relatives in Shreveport Sunday. Visiting Mr and Mrs John McKeithan Tuesday were Rev and Mrs Mott of Cullen La.
Sunday activity centers on family visits and birthday celebrations. Colvin relatives from Arkansas and Louisiana gathered including Mrs. W. D. Lewis and Mitt Geneva Green to mark Mr. Colvin’s 63rd birthday while others from El Dorado Ruston Bastrop and Shreveport spent time with local kin. Pre-Easter services are planned at the Methodist church with Rev. Boddie as guest speaker.
Rev Louis Layfield recorded Sunday services to reach shut-ins unable to attend church. His first visit was to Pruitt Residence Home in Arcadia at 1 30 pm Sunday. Also noting surprised visits by Mr and Mrs J A Mobley and relatives from Houston and Monroe.
Mrs Iva Harrison and Mrs J M Wright hosted guests Tuesday afternoon. Imogene Mitchell entertained friends while Mrs George Wilder Mrs Novie Mitchell Mrs Bessie Simmons and Mrs Frank Mitchell attended. Leland Hall and family visited the Harrisons Saturday. Fishing was enjoyed by H C Skinner Frank Mitchell and J R Harrison at Water Creek last week. Colvin and Alexander hosted at Simsboro. The Simmons family and Ray Kilgore visited Gainesville. Rev Layfield and Mrs D W Martin dined with S Op Beard on Sunday.
The Antioch Simsboro Missionary Youth Federation gathered at Bernice Methodist Church on Monday April 11. Attendees included Mary Bingham Bill Cassels Jerry Grey Linda Lewis Timmy Lu Charles Napper Gloria Skinner David Skinner Larry Waldron and counselor Mrs R M Bingham plus Miss Jerry Dean Lewis of New Orleans and Miss Billie Sue Lewis of La Tech.
Members of the demonstration fund held a discussion on Getting Along with People. An announced total of 13.75 was collected for the Red Grass drive. The club voted to add 5.00 from the treasury and solicited further donations for the worthy cause. Interested donors may contact Mrs. Jack Waldron, club president.
Mrs A P Sisemore travels to Shreveport to meet her new grandson Douglas Paul Massey born to Mr and Mrs Vaughn Massey on March 29. Visitors from Dallas and local families attend church and meals in Ruston while J E Neaville returns from Griffithville Ark to meet family. Clay residents mourn the sudden death of Roy Lyles, age 49.
In Ansley Louisiana at Clay church Rev W L Westbrook delivered two inspirational messages Sunday morning and night. Rev Lyman Douglas held quarterly conference Monday evening. Visitors included Mr and Mrs Robert Bacle and two daughters of Mangham and Gordon Kavanaugh of Bunkie. Other locals noted: Mrs Kendall with son and family, Mrs Elna Willis at a Post Masters meeting in Alexandria, and Mr and Mrs Davis Clinton and family from Farmerville.
