The Leader publisher thanks Ruston and surrounding parish for cooperation during trying and good years. A small town newspaper now serves a wider area with commercial, spiritual and cultural needs. The piece reflects on challenges, community effort, and optimism for a better tomorrow.

The Lin coln parish school board reports Ruston High’s James Field lighting has been rebuilt with new lights and poles at a total cost of 4126.44. City workers covered labor, poles cost 1106.20 rights 1638.27 labor 1281.43 and other costs 102.54. The board will send appreciation to city workers and P. G. Grambling for assistance.
The Ruston Presbyterian Church announces a two event program including a drama titled Christ in the Concrete City on April 16 featuring cast from Westminster Presbyterian Church of Shreveport Louisiana. The Belhaven College Chorale will perform sacred music on April 19 under director Mr Robert DeVes.
James Martin Beatty, 42, a retired farmer and Ruston native, died at his residence after several weeks of illness. Funeral services were held at Wesley Chapel church with Rev. George W. Ross officiating. Burial followed at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Survivors include five daughters, a sister in Pollock, a brother in Ruston, 16 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jackson Parish Library Board moves to finance the library entirely from local funds as it transfers from a demonstration to parish control. Catherine Adams of the State Library aided the process in Jonesboro, outlining terms for terminating Shirley Brother as librarian. Brother leaves April 15 for a California State Library post. Charlie Hampton of Shreveport will assume duties in June with LSU coursework in progress.

Dubach rolled past Spearsville 12 to 2 as pitcher John Jeffcoat improved to six wins by limiting Spearsville to five hits. Douglas Britt led Dubach with three hits and 4 RBIs, Larry Green added 2 for 5 with 4 RBIs, and Mervin Bagwell went 3 for 5. Joey Barron pitched for Spearsville. Dubach to host Linville Thursday and Fair Park Saturday.
Louisiana State University's A Cappella Choir directed by Dallas Draper will give a 1 p.m. concert at Ruston High School on April 6 during its spring North Louisiana tour. The 70 member ensemble recently recorded its first professional album drawn from its Christmas Concert.
