The North Western Manitoba plowing match, held at Norman Greaves' farm near Russell, drew about seventy five spectators. A. W. Marshall of Russell won the open class and the United Grain Growers trophy, with Frank Mushumanski of Silverton topping the 4-H division and securing the Manitoba Pool Elevator trophy. Jamie Langford led the one way disc event, with Russell’s Langford ahead in overall standing.

The Shellbank Calf Club held Achievement Day on June 11 with students from Shell River and Rochedale, plus parents. Dr. Jim Smart demonstrated rope halter making and distributed halters to exhibitors. Keith McComb judged the show, naming Jimmy Daneliuk champion and George Daneliuk reserve. Ernest Zetaruk, David Onutreichuk, and Rodney Titian won ribbons. Rodney Titian, Bill Germain and Ernest Zetaruk placed in judging. Henry Iwacha leads the Lennard School District club started in 1956.

Elephants Bring Ring Brothers Circus to Russell

Russell council approves three year contract with Metropolitan Investigation & Security Ltd to provide town policing from July 1. One officer will be stationed locally to take over RCMP duties.
