Plans for a July 18 parade to open the fair repeat last year’s event. Gayland Shows and the Agricultural Society promote the procession with four classes and prize money of 25, 15, and 10 dollars for first through third place. Categories include Commercial, Individual, 4-H Clubs, and Organizations.
An itinerary highlights a Pancake Champion en route to the Flin Flon Trout Festival in the north. The Kansas highway association promotes Route 83 with a prize vacation trip. Miss Collingwood pauses in Russell with John Collingwood and Cherine Williams, joined by Mr and Mrs Paul Maxwell and children Terry and Leslie on their northward journey.
Miss Denyes daughter of Rev and Mrs G F Denyes addressed Edmonton concert audiences as Vancouver artists Margaret Tobias contralto and Don Brown tenor joined the program with the Tactical Air Command week presentation. Denyes has appeared in Vancouver and New Westminster concerts and Oratorio. In April she will sing in Haydn's Creation in Vancouver and plans a summer engagement.
The Russell Chamber of Commerce and the Agramura committee plan an August two to three day tour covering Neepawa Portage la Prairie and other towns to showcase oil seed crops canning crops and sugar beets. Members urged to sign up with Keith McComb as final arrangements depend on participant numbers.
A 50th anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs. A. Graham of Binscarth was held in Selsgirth Manitoba on June 19 1907 with Rev. W A McKim officiating. About 175 guests from Yorkton Russell Minota Arrow River Inglish Satioats and Foxwarren attended including several relatives and long-time friends. The event featured a three tier cake by Faye Clegg Arrow River and songs by Earl Reagh Binscarth with gifts from Rebekah and Masonic Lodges and community.
Health Minister R W Bond says the Rate Board in Manitoba is studying costs and utilization under potential hospital insurance plans. The in depth examination covers plan costs, beds available, and economic factors, including existing provincial plans and those in other provinces. The study aims to determine usefulness whether Manitoba joins a national hospital insurance program.
May include information to aid the Rate Board in setting patient rates under the provinces indigent care plan. The note indicates data will support determinations and policy guidance for eligible patients and related funding.
The Kiwanis sponsored public speaking contest will pit four contestants from Russell and Roblin districts against each other at 6 pm in Knox United Church basement. Representing Russell are 4-H club members Mary Behelby and Peggy Witty as they vie for honors with Roblin district teammates.
The Rural Municipality of Russell council approved reconstruction of the old No 4 highway bordering four municipalities near Binscarth. Estimated municipal cost is 4500 with grants allocated: Silver Creek 1625 plus 975 grant, Ellice 1250 plus 750 grant. Other actions include street light by-laws at Harrowby and Millwood, gravel purchases, and 1967 electors roll adoption.
The Ring Brothers Circus comes to Russell on July 5 for two shows at 2:30 and 8:30 pm held in the Parking Lot under BP O Ellis. Doors open one hour early for the animal menagerie kiddie show and snake exhibits. The circus marks its 33rd year and traces roots to a Texas wagon show built by a persevering family.
George Quintendo of Russell buys the champion Shorthorn bull at the Shoal Lake show, highlighting a standout entry in the district cattle display.
The Wolverine Hobby & Historical Society held its annual rally at Fort Ellice near St Lazare Manitoba on June 16 with guest speaker KC Russelle Susnaroon author of The Carlton Trail. Over 200 attendees from Saskatchewan and Manitoba heard talks on pioneers trails and local history from Gilbert Johnson W J McDonald and several guests including Carl Perrin Pateman Archie MacDonald and others sharing Fort Ellice memories and archival notes.

Mrs. George Hiller of Russell won the tie-breaker for a new Chevrolet car at the Gilbert Plains car bingo on Tuesday night. The Hiller couple are avid bingo fans and travel to nearby events to play the car bingo games.
The twelfth National Barley Contest of 1967 may be the final edition. An advisory committee of the Brewing and Malting Research Institute will decide whether to continue near year’s end. The contest aimed to raise malting barley quality and boost production, with farmers increasingly growing malting barley to meet demand and premium prices.
