No Stamps Needed On Small Checks
Government loosens excise stamp rules effective July 1 1923 narrowing stamp requirements for small payments. Checks money orders traveler's checks and similar documents up to five dollars will require no stamp. amounts over five dollars to fifty dollars retain a two cent stamp. higher ranges incur stamps per fifty dollars with fines for unpaid stamps or unstamped payments. Also notes broadened to cover non bank documents. penalties apply to both payers and banks. Lost item on Asessippi road noted with coat and purse.
