The 43rd Russell Agricultural Society fair runs July 21 and 22 featuring a Russell Derby, midways, Army and Veterans displays, horticulture and art exhibits. visitors are offered labor saving demonstrations, modern amenities, Highland dancing, and a full program of sport and entertainment for two days.
The Silver Beach community notes a busy season with outings, dances, and camps. Local groups including C.G.I.T. and Social Orchestra entertain at the pavilion while families enjoy picnics, camping, and shore recreation.
Over fifty members attended the Russell Local Wheat Pool meeting last Monday. J. A. Carlson of Roblin spoke on the pool’s operations and the proposed elevator policy to be settled at Brandon’s end of month meeting. New officers elected include President L. G. Swindell and Vice President Dan Ross, with L. C. Boulton as secretary. Shipping committees named for Binsearth Millwood Harrowby Penrith Endcliffe Madill and Russell points.
An oversight at the Shellmouth Fair left sheep prizes missing from the list. The entry details awards for 1st Ram pure bred three dollars, two dollars and one dollar for other placings, plus prizes for breeding pen entries and ewes.
The ENOCLIFFE Service will be held at the school next Sunday at 3 p.m. The W I held a regular meeting on Wednesday July 8 at Mrs. McGill's home with good attendance and a lively programme. Mrs. Stewart could not give her report on the Provincial Convention but the next meeting will open for this report at Mrs. H R Parry's on Wednesday August 12. The Royston Institute and school children entertained Eadcliffe children at a picnic at Royston school. The Royston crowd and Eadcliffe baseball team visited Marchwell Friday and won 11 to 7. A reception dance for Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Schwalm, recently back from a two week western honeymoon, followed. A dance will be held at Mr. McGibbons barn Friday July 17 with music and lunch by the WI. this is the last dance until winter. Admission is 5c for adults. The WI thanks nonmembers who helped make the picnic a success.
The Trail Rangers set camp at Lake Vandecar about five miles southeast of the village led by the pastor. A large Senior C.G.L.T. party and friends went to Fish Lake to Camp under Mrs. Clement Dunham. Open air service due to heat drew good turnout as pastor urged Sabbath worship. Church grounds received cleaning and alterations while road work continued in the municipality.
Rev Bailey of Silvérton and Minniska will conduct the service at 7 p.m. next Sunday with a message for all. Last Sunday's service was held in the basement due to warm weather and will be repeated if it remains hot. Rev Millar plans to take residence at the Manse and begin regular services on July 26.
The notice lists Sunday School at 11 a.m. Evensong at 7 p.m. and a sermon on the second Beatitude. It also reports a recent meeting of the Church Wardens of Russell Harrowby and Shellmouth at the Rectory to promote cooperation and place parish work on a sound business basis.
The sixth Sunday after Trinity marks the anniversary of the Signing of Peace with a children's flower service at 11 o'clock and the monument decorated. All children are invited to attend and bring flowers. Confirmation class is Saturday evening at 8 o'clock in the church.
A garden party will be held Thursday July 30 at Knockdruff the farm home of Mr and Mrs W Lee between Harrowby and Marchwell. It begins at 3 pm with a tennis tournament lawn croquet children’s sports fish pond refreshment booth and a musical programme with dancing on the green. Tea served admission 25c children 15c.
Horses gathered from across the province and Eastern Saskatchewan as noted stables from Birtle Ham to Shellmouth prepare for the Fair race meet next week. Trainers Page Barry Gilmour and others help with entries and paddock timing.

The baseball team opened with a loss to Churchbridge at McNutt in a prize event, then lost to Kamsack and placed out of prize money. They won three games in Virden against Oak Lake Virden and Hartney capped by a 10 0 final, and played four at Neepawa defeating Glenboro Eden and Franklin before a 6 5 loss to Neepawa. Umpire decisions at Neepawa sparked controversy as fans claimed unfair calls cost them the final. If travel allows, they may go to Melita. The squad, except Smith and Everett, is made up of home players and they are praised for early season success.
A directors meeting for the Russell Agricultural Society will be held on the grounds this Saturday at 7.30 p.m. The notice omits a rule ban on showing an animal in two sections of the same class except for special prizes.
