Evening Redpolls and Winter Feeder Observations
An observer recalls fifty redpolls feeding at dusk from a double decker feeder, noting Grosbeaks on the lower deck and small birds above. Cold January winds reduced Evening Grosbeak and Bohemian Waxwing numbers, while a rescued Grosbeak recovered, and a Bohemian Waxwing perished from the cold. The letter also thanks bird lovers and mentions sunflowers, seeds, and a Bohemian Waxwing’s striking plumage.
