Russell Nursery School opens at Memorial Street
The Russell Nursery School opened on Saturday January 30 1982 at 2:00 p.m. with about 40 attendees including Mayor Jim Langford and Reeve Bob Witty. The Kinsmen Club funded the building relocation from St Rose Manitoba at a cost around 20000 dollars. The day funds rely on grants, non fees and fundraisers with a Ways and Means committee forming. The board lists Linda Connors as president Elaine Heins secretary Elaine Burgess treasurer Ted Smith member at large Lorraine Flundra past president. Donna Reid prepared the program noting future Board of Education links. parents are welcome to observe. The first class started in January with 55 registered children and capacity for about 100. The facility is for children and not a babysitting centre. The Kinsmen supported the need for a new nursery school in Russell.

Mayer urges tax relief to aid Canadian farmers

He warned that Canadian farmers face production declines not from markets or weather but from man made uncertainties and proposed fuel rebates for cod production to help curb food costs as the government plans to collect 40 to 60 cents per gallon in farm fuel taxes this year.

Westman cable TV aims to wire Russell by spring
Westman Media Coop hopes to have cable television in operation by March 3 1982 in Russell weather permitting. A satellite dish will be located in Russell to bring in three American stations along with Canadian channels.
